Highlights of the VSOP

On the 29th of October i attended the Victorian Series Of Poker run by the National Pub Poker League. I must say it was a really well runned tournament everything went smooth and the information on the game was well received by the hosts.

The game started at 9am and had my supporters railing my table. The field had about 190 players blinds go up every hour with 20k starting stack. Deep stack MY FAVORITE !!!so the first hour i kept low and played some small pots i didn't want to get too involved this early unless i was sitting on a huge monster. 2nd blind level my chip stack turned into a YOYO one min i was up 3k the down to 19k then 16k and back up to 20k and so on. But break was at the end of the second level and i needed it. With some time with my supporters and a relaxing break i was ready to take on my table . And sadly nothing changed my chip stack was still on a roller coaster. One major hand in these 2 blind levels was i had 4-6 one off the dealer button and needed to steal so i raised 3x the big blind and to my surprise the blinds both called. Flop came 3,5,7 so i was laughing on the inside couldnt beleive it so everyone check i did the same. then the next card would of givin someone a flush draw so i decided no more checking and they checked to me then i bet around half the pot small blind folded and big blind raised me. so i re-raised and she flat called. The action paused a bit on the river with another spade on the table to complete a possible flush so i put in a small bet to find myself with a call and i won the pot.

So after the hand happened i was extreamly card dead and couldnt find any spots to make a move and frustratingly it left me with 11k.

Next blinds were $400-$800 so i needed to play like it was the end of the world..
witch i did and won 5 pots in a row shoving all in when i hit top pair regardless of the kicker and i was starting to get into "the zone" and a few players wernt happy with my play because i went from being under the radar to maniac and one player in particular was rolling his eyes and looked at me in discuss. I really didnt care i took his chips so i always gave him a smile.
It was around the 8th hand after break and i had jacks on the small blind and the rolling eyes player limped in and i decided to make him pay for it and raised . Big Blind folded and he called.
Flop came 6,8,10 he put a bet into me and i thought his hit the ten and because he hates me he would consider a all in call. i pondered for a bit and decided that i would test him and i shoved all in. He went into tank mode. Time passed and in his head he thought it was a great oppitunity to take out this maniac so he called and he was holding K10 so there was close to 43k in the pot.

Turn- Blank
River- King

I was pretty shattered but i shook his hand and wished my table good luck. I guess that's just poker and in poker shit happens you could do everything right but doesn't always mean you will win. Poker player always need some luck and i accepted that. All in all it was a great day and id like to thank my DIE HARD Supporters for being there and im glade they enjoyed the day as well.

The Vsop was a very well runned event and i hope they continue these events in the future .

36 Days to go till NPPL's VSOP

Well its coming closer to my next big tournament and I'm starting to get into the right mind set. I really want to win this event and get the . It will put my foot down within the league and show im not just another "pub poker player" Ideally i would love to win that is my aim but at the end of the day i would be happy to get in the money.

This event has had alot of hype over the past couple of months with sattlites running about 3-5 times a week and there is already quite a bit of money within the prize pool. It is a two day event witch will give me a big advantage over the other players. The two day event would be new to most of the field and not knowing how to handle that will give me a edge.

I'm in study mode at the moment reading everything i can and also play a bit of small stakes pokerstars. Well lets face it small stakes poker online is like a pub poker event anyway LOL Within a week or two i plan on going to a couple of NPPL nights and get familiar with how players play. Its been quite awhile since i have stepped foot on NPPL soil but i will be attending very soon.

So i will keep you updates with my preparation while leading up to the event.
Hope all is well and i see you on the felt shortly ;)

Been Broken Down But Slowly Building Back Up

Hello Followers and people that randomly stopped by to check it out,

I take it you have an idea of what the title is all about.. My last live experience about 2 months ago was in a cash game at crown and was dealt KK so i decided to raise around $22 and i had a caller. Flop came Q,2,2
she checked and i shoved whatever it was i had left and got a call to see that this (excuse my language) fuck wit had J2. since then i lost my faith with poker and still to this day feeling the burn of that hand. But i have been playing more online lately more than usual and im getting my faith and confidence back and have decided in the next month i will venture out to NPPL cash games to get an idea of what some of my opponents will be like for the VSOP at the end of next month. I have brought a few books to study up and make sure im a force to be reckoned with. I'm clearly after a strong finish at the national pub pokers VSOP it will be the biggest event for me since the Melbourne champs a few years back.Sadly I don't play many big event as I would like but when I get a chance i like to do everything i can to do 110%.
It would be awesome if you all would come out and cheer me on i know a couple of friends and family will be out that day to lend some support.

So ill be building myself back up ready to jump into the VSOP with my pokergear.com.au merch and take on the battle ...

I think I need to go back to playing Live

Hello all and a shout out to my awesome followers ;)
As of lately I have been playing a lot of online poker and no major wins just little cashes and a lot of strange plays made by my opponents on the good old jokerstars. After I heard that online poker MAYBE going down the path of the Americans. Has me a little worried not that I'm a huge online player but If this goes ahead it will put a dint in the poker world and the last thing I want to see is Australian poker suffer. But with this bull shit going on It has made me think that I need to get back into playing live. I'd play live every night but its a bit hard to get a game out here in the country. But I will make the commitment of coming to melbourne more often and get my live skills back up.( incase iv lost them lol ) so I hope to see you all at a table soon with me wearing my serious sunglasses and my pimpin hat to take down some tournaments. I look forward to meeting new people and avoid playing some players that will send me broke on a cash table not to mention names but Shane Randle lol. I look up to this guy he is a regular at crown and is always making good money on the cash tables. He is a gun and make sure your not sitting on his table..... I warned you lol .
My 25th bday will be soon quite excited I get to see all friends and family that support my poker addiction lol.
I'm also available to do some coaching for any players that would like a second opinion free of charge. Nothing more rewarding than helping others to their goal. So lookout for my blogs i will be posting any storys and hopefuly some wins.

Updates and Thoughts

Its been awhile since i last wrote and me and luke went back to the moutinview hotel for the teams event to attempt to go back to back. We played realy well that day alot like last time but lady luck had got the best of us. Final hand was KQ vs 88 we hit the king on the flop but the nasty river came an 8. We were on the bubble witch sucks but we made it as far as we could.
Lately iv heard alot of poker players complain about donky's. I know how fustrating they are and yeah they are a bitch but i have some advice try pub poker for awhile i know its no crown but just for a few sessions give it a go. You will home in on some skills on how to play against these idiorts and well what better place then pub poker hey lol.
Alot of people are negative to the poker game that it isnt a sport, cant make an income, you will never be a pro and so on .. You can think that all you like you are intitaled to you opinion but at the end of the day who are you to tell someone it will never happen ? Have you ever had a dream to make it somewhere in life and had people tell you its never going to happen?
I love it because it makes me try harder. I personaly dont give a shit about what others think because i know more about the indurstry than they will so i understand that they arnt well educated enough of the game to understand.
For me what makes a great poker player isnt his playing . Although it plays a huge part i beleive that having a support group behind you wins tournaments. I couldnt of made it alot of wins without my support group.
And i am verry luck to have a wife like Emma who understands the releationship of me and poker. She has always told me to go for it and is always there for me during tournaments for support. I would like to thank everyone that has givin me support over the last few years and continue to do so.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to message me. Im here to help also and if i can help someone improve their game just a little bit it would be verry rewarding for me.

And i would also like to thank all the followers i have on this blog 19 and counting i realy appreciate it

Nppl Teams Event 2k Guaranteed For The Win

Sunday 20th of February At the Mountain View Hotel National Pub Poker League held a $50 Teams Event 2K guaranteed in the prize pool. A lot of people are getting confused by the 2k guaranteed; it basically means is that you don’t have to win the event to get cash. They space it out and with this event it was from 1st to 6th and 1st gets the most % of the 2k and 6th got the lowest %.

The event rules where that your team of two swap playing every 20mins witch was every blind level and had a 2mins in between to talk with your team member. One player of your team sits down with 5k and when you swap your partner brings another 5k adding to the teams stack.

First of all I’d like to congratulate my friend Josh Bourke on becoming a Father at 9.15am on Sunday and I’m very happy for him and wish him all the best in the future, I’m glad the baby girl is safe and healthy.

Sunday morning my Mother convinced me to go down to the Mountain View even though I didn’t have a team member. I think she just wanted to get out of the house. As I walked up to the tournament host I told him my situation that I wanted to entre but had no partner and immediately he referred me to this guy Luke. I wanted to play so bad but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do this with someone I didn’t know but it was only $25 per person so I jumped at it. But I kept positive and told him where going all the way and made the host realize that the wild cards will see the final table for sure.
After we signed up me and Luke started chatting about our poker styles and from what he was telling me………….. He was a Rookie. He told me he doesn’t read players he isn’t advanced in poker and he just plays his cards. I then thought that’s Great!. We had the game plan of he dose his thing on the felt and keep our stack healthy and ill pull the moves on to juice it up.
We decided that he would sit down and play first then I would come in second. And I watched him play on the sidelines and he was playing tight and getting chips here and there.
Luke was a very happy looking guy and just kind nature which was a bit of a down fall when I saw some players bully him but he didn’t tilt.
He had a huge hand when he held J8 and it came 3QQ,Q,J and one guy raised 300 he called then the next player went all in. I saw the look on his face and he didn’t look happy. I’m pretty sure if this wasn’t a team’s event he would of shoved all in. But something told him to fold and lucky enough one had the Full House the other had Quad Queens. After I saw this big laydown my I thought for a rookie to lay that hand down is extremely impressive. At this stage I couldn’t be happier with my team mate.
20mins was up and I told him that the laydown he made was epic and I boosted his confidence but I also told him be real careful when you play high cards with a low card. I caught him playing some a rag and getting bullied to fold. But we were on the right track with around 4.3k

As I sat down and started to play I came to the 2nd hand in the game for me and was delt QQ so I raised and was then reraised from someone in middle position so I just called. Flop came down something like Q J 8 . I think checked and he raised big on me at least 30% of my chips. At this stage I thought he had either AA, KK, JJ. So I called him. And lucky enough the next card was a Queen giving me Four Of A Kind. I bet he goes all in and I call. My read was correct he had Kings and made him really short stack.
Next Hand I had AK so I raised 2k and had 3 callers and one all in for under 3k. Flop came AA9 I checked with a player raising and the third player folded I went all in and he folded. The player that was all in mucked his hand and didn’t bother but I turned my cards over and hit another Ace on the river... Four Of a Kind 2 hands in a row. My luck has paid off huge with around 26k
As the day went on we stuck to our game plan and it was working I build the stack and Luke maintains it.

On the bubble for final table blinds got really big and our stack wasn’t big enough with the blind at 4k/8k and we had 40k. I needed to make a move.
I was on the button and I needed to steal the blinds so I raised to 20k to steal with A5. The small blind then takes his time in acting on his hand and after a few mins his all in. I had slightly more than he did but I felt committed. If I folded then I won’t have many blinds left to see and put our tournament life at risk. Or I could do what poker is all about …. GAMBLE!!!!! I was all in.
I was shattered to see he had 66 as we saw the flop I took a deep breath and screamed when I saw an ace down on the flop. He didn’t end up getting another 6 and he wasn’t happy with me but I didn’t care I had his chips and where still in it. And off to FINAL TABLE.

Just as soon as we entered the first hand I was after a few small pots and build up a bit before change over. During the change over I told Luke to keep the same game plan and its raise or fold mode no calling because we cant afford to. This player that they call “donkey” ran a bluff against the chip leader and I was extremely impressed. This rookie has some game. 8 players left 3 short stacks and im about to sit down.
I let Luke know his doing great because I knew I had to build his confidence up if I was to take it all the way he might have to go heads up.
Within time the 3 short stack where gone and where in the money !
Everyone on the table is playing tight real tight that the only move that was done it was a raise on the small blind to take the big blinds chips. I was first to act in this hand with A10 of diamonds.
I decided to raise half my stack and I assumed that was enough to grab the small and big blinds but a player on the button raised me all in. Yeah I trapped myself. I assumed that the player had an ace wasn’t sure about his kicker. This player is your typical pub poker player ( anything with an ace is good) so after thinking for awhile I decided to go all in .
He had Ace King ……. I was stunned. flop came down with two diamonds so there was hope but I still know I was fighting for our tournament life. Next card was a king. And I called out “Give me one diamond just this once “ and the poker gods must of heard my shouting plea. A diamond on the river.
We were saved! Got a great stack and took out a player with 4 remaining. Shortly after that there were and all in and another player eliminated.
With 5 mins left I took out another player I cant recall what I had it was written down and ill chase it up and post all the hands on final table later but I cant recall what I had but it didn’t matter to me. We got heads up.

We where heads up for 2 mins and I managed to take most of his chips away from them and he only had 35% of what we had until it was the swap. I quickly turn to Luke and ask him “do you know how to play heads up ?” he response was that he has played heads up a little bit. I still had faith in the man his impressed me a great deal and if he bombed out well hey 2nd isn’t the worst thing in the world. I gave him some pointers on heads up play and he took it on board.
As he sat down I got nervous real nervous. He was playing his game he would raise on his good hands and fold his rubbish except for this one hand he must of taken in what I spoke to him about with heads up play and he bluffed the opponents raise. After seeing that I got really excited and nerves weren’t there anymore. He went all in with 69 against AJ he hit a 9 on the flop but lost on the river to a Jack. It was up and down and a really good battle. He managed to get the opponent short stack ( only had around 3 big blinds left in him) and he decided to give up and the opponent went all in with 10,6 against our AQ. Sadly he had got a 6 on the flop but we took the lead on the turn with an ace and it was game over. I was stunned and proud of Luke for sticking to the game plan and listening and learning throughout the tournament. He had a huge smile on his face and I could wipe the smirk .I haven’t been that noisy in a poker game before but I guess I just had my head right in the game and wanted it so bad. We were the wild cards and we took it down.

We also won a $400 nppl main event 80k guarantee seat and a cash money prize.
There are photos that I need to chase up and I will post them when I can.
But to sum it all up the so called donkey played fantastic poker and I hope his mates get rid of that title because we beat them all to it lol. I’m really happy that I won my first team’s event.

I will post hand history and photos when I receive them so stay tuned and feel free to follow my blogs.
